Chords for my melody

Tap, hum or sing a tune for eight seconds, and hear it with chords under it. Three ways: safe, darker, more energetic. Copy the ones you like.

The microphone opens when you tap, listens for eight seconds and closes. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

How it finds the chords

It reads the notes you sing, one at a time, and finds the key from how long you stay on each. Then it cuts your melody into half bars, two beats each, and for every half bar picks the chord that holds the most of what you sang there. It reads pitch only; it doesn't judge your voice.

Every chord is a plain triad from the key, so you can play it on a guitar or a piano right away. The small numbers under the names are the chord's place in the key (I is home, V pulls back to it), handy if you want to play it in another key.

Three sets, three moods

Safe uses the four chords most pop songs are made of: I, IV, V and vi. Darker leans on the minor chords of the key and sometimes borrows one from the minor key next door. More energetic keeps moving, leans on V and IV, and now and then sets up a chord with its own dominant. Same melody, three different songs.

Getting good chords

Hum at an even pace, as if a beat were running, and sing a bit of a real tune. A melody that moves gives the chords something to follow; one long note fits almost anything. Hum or sing "la", and come close to the phone.

Then make something of it

Your melody goes into Brumm, in time, inside a club track with a beat and a bass. The app adds its own chords that follow your melody. No account, no upload: the melody travels inside the link itself.

Your voice stays on your phone: the tool reads it in the browser and keeps nothing. How the site counts visits.
