How fast, and who says so
Both sources settle on about 150 BPM:
- Native Instruments, How to make a hardstyle track (2024): 150–160 BPM
- eMastered, How to Make Hardstyle Music (2024): 145–150 BPM
The groove on this page
Hardstyle is a kick genre: the kick is distorted until it has a pitch and a tail, and that kick is the lead as much as anything on top. It plays on every beat, with a bass on the offbeats between, the reverse bass of the earlier style. Native Instruments gives 150 to 160 and eMastered 145 to 150, so 150 is where they meet; Wikipedia says the first years ran at 140 to 150.

Delay and LFO values
A delay in time with the track repeats once per note value: a quarter note lasts 60,000 divided by the BPM, in milliseconds. Dotted is one and a half times that, triplet two thirds. An LFO synced to a note value cycles at 1,000 divided by those milliseconds, in Hz. The table follows the tempo above: − and + move it, and so does a tempo you tap.
| Note | Straight | Dotted | Triplet | LFO Hz |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1/1 (a bar) | 1,600.0 | 2,400.0 | 1,066.7 | 0.63 |
| 1/2 | 800.0 | 1,200.0 | 533.3 | 1.25 |
| 1/4 (a beat) | 400.0 | 600.0 | 266.7 | 2.50 |
| 1/8 | 200.0 | 300.0 | 133.3 | 5.00 |
| 1/16 | 100.0 | 150.0 | 66.7 | 10.00 |
| 1/32 | 50.0 | 75.0 | 33.3 | 20.00 |

Then make something of it
The door opens Brumm, a club track with a beat and a bass, with this groove's low end in it. The app runs between 90 and 150 BPM, so a faster or slower tempo goes in at half or double. No account, no upload: it travels inside the link. Hum a line over it, and it becomes an instrument.
