Vocal warm-up

A warm-up you sing along with: hums, lip trills, sirens and five-note scales, each one played first, then sung back. The notes sit inside your own comfortable range, so nothing pulls you to the edges.

First, a quick range check

Low, but only as low as still feels easy. Hold an “ah” until the bar runs out. Two notes, and the warm-up fits your voice.

How the vocal warm-up works

First it asks for two notes: your lowest and your highest that still feel easy, held for a few seconds (the same check as the vocal range test). If you know your range, type it in instead. Every exercise is then placed inside that range with a note to spare at each end, so a bass and a soprano get the same routine in different places.

Each exercise is listen, then sing: a piano-like tone plays the notes, then they light up and you sing them back. The microphone only listens to show whether you're roughly on the note, in a few calm words. There is no score. Five minutes is humming, lip trills, sirens, scales and a cool-down; ten and fifteen add chord notes, vowels and an octave leap.

Why warm up, and when to stop

A warm-up gets breath, lips and the small muscles of the voice moving before you ask anything of them, the way a runner jogs before a sprint. Lip trills and humming are gentle on the voice and good for the first minutes; scales come once it moves easily.

Stop if anything hurts, scratches or turns into a cough, and skip any round that feels like reaching. A warm-up is meant to feel easy. If your voice has felt hoarse for more than two weeks, see a doctor or a voice teacher; a warm-up is not a cure.

Then sing something

When you're done, the middle of your range goes into Brumm as a note inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the note travels inside the link. Hum a whole line there, and it becomes an instrument.

Your voice stays on your phone: the tool reads it in the browser and keeps nothing. How the site counts visits.
