How to tune

A twelve-string is a six-string with every string doubled. The B and E pairs are unisons; the E, A, D and G pairs each get a thin string an octave above the thick one. The tuner folds octaves, so tune the thick string, then its thin partner against the same note, and listen for the pair to stop beating.

Twelve strings pull hard on the neck, and many players keep theirs a whole step down, D G C F A D, and use a capo at the second fret to play in standard; it's the second switch. The string that breaks is the thin octave G, the thinnest on the guitar and tuned the highest: bring it up slowly.

Then play something

The notes you tuned can go into Brumm as a short melody over a beat. Hum a line on top and it becomes an instrument.
