Why you mostly see A♭ instead

G♯ major needs eight sharps, one of them a double sharp (F𝄪, played on G), so music is almost always written in A♭ major, the same keys with four flats. The piano doesn't care: the fingering is A♭'s, right hand 3 4 1 2 3 1 2 3, left hand 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 3. G♯ shows up in pieces in C♯ minor, where it is the dominant.
