Violin tuner

A free violin tuner in your phone's browser: G D A E one string at a time, with a needle and the cents; A at 440 or 442 Hz. Nothing uploaded.

The microphone stays open while you tune and closes when you stop, when everything is in tune, or after half a minute of quiet. Nothing is recorded or sent.

How to tune

A violin is tuned in fifths: G D A E, low to high. Start with the A, then D, G and E. Bow a long, even note, or pluck and let it ring; use the fine tuners for the last few cents and the pegs only when a string is far off.

Many orchestras tune to A at 442 Hz; the reference switch moves every string with it. A string that keeps going flat is usually a peg slipping: push it in a little as you turn.

The needle shows how far you are from the note the tuner expects, in cents: a hundred cents is a semitone, five or closer gets the tick, and anything inside twenty most people don't hear.

Then play something

The notes you tuned go into Brumm as a short melody, inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the notes travel inside the link itself. Hum or play a line there, and it becomes an instrument.

The microphone is read in the browser and nothing is kept. How the site counts visits.
