5-string bass tuner
A free 5-string bass tuner in your phone's browser: low B tuning B E A D G or high-C tuning E A D G C, one string at a time, with a needle and the cents. Nothing uploaded.

The low B is a slow string. Mika gives it a moment longer before he says anything. The microphone closes when you stop, when all is in tune, or after half a minute of quiet. Nothing is recorded.

How to tune
Most five-string basses add a low B under the usual four: B E A D G. The B sits at 30.87 Hz, far below what a phone hears, so the tuner listens to its overtones; mute the other strings and pluck it with the side of the thumb, not the nail, so the fundamental comes through.
A low B on a short neck can feel floppy and blur in the needle and in the mix; that is why many five-strings are built longer, with a 35-inch scale or fanned frets. The other five-string tuning drops nothing and adds a high C instead, E A D G C, for chords and solos; it's the second switch.
Then play something
The notes you tuned can go into Brumm as a short melody over a beat. Hum a line on top and it becomes an instrument.
