The microphone stays open while you tune and closes when you stop, when everything is in tune, or after half a minute of quiet. Nothing is recorded or sent.
How to tune
A flute is in C: what you read is what sounds. Warm the flute for a minute, then play the A, the B♭ and the F long and steady, with your normal embouchure, not rolled in or out to chase the needle.
Sharp: pull the head joint out a little. Flat: push it in. A few millimetres move it about ten cents. If the low notes and the high notes disagree, aim the air rather than moving the head joint again.
The needle shows how far you are from the note the tuner expects, in cents: a hundred cents is a semitone, five or closer gets the tick, and anything inside twenty most people don't hear.
Then play something
The notes you tuned go into Brumm as a short melody, inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the notes travel inside the link itself. Hum or play a line there, and it becomes an instrument.
The microphone is read in the browser and nothing is kept. How the site counts visits.
