Same or different?
Mika plays two short tunes. Listen closely: are they the same, or is one note different?
Your tune
You can take this tune into Brumm Kids. A marimba plays it there, over a beat.
How to play
Tap “Listen”. Mika plays a short tune, then another one straight after. Sometimes they are the same, sometimes one note is different. Tap “Same” or “Different”. If you're right, Mika howls. If not, you hear both again. That's not a mistake, just another listen.
The tunes start with three notes and slowly get longer. The changed note stays in the same key, so it never sounds out of tune, just different. After a few right rounds you can take your tune into Brumm Kids: a marimba plays it there over a beat, and you can sing along.
Why same or different?
Comparing two tunes is one of the first listening exercises in primary school music. You keep a little tune in your head, then listen closely for whether anything moved. Children who play it often listen to melodies more carefully, when they sing and when they play an instrument.
For parents
The game needs no microphone: the notes are made in the browser, and your child only listens and taps. There are no points and no comparing with other children; Mika's paws only collect the right rounds, and a wrong one never takes one away. Nothing is stored or sent, and there is no account. A round takes a few seconds, a game about five minutes, made for children of about five to ten.
