The bright, floating major
One note changes the major scale into Lydian, the ♯4, and it takes away the pull the 4th normally has. Film composers use it for wonder and flight (John Williams, Danny Elfman, "The Simpsons" theme), and Joe Satriani built "Flying in a Blue Dream" on it. Over a major seventh chord, play the ♯4 instead of the 4.
