Bouzouki tuner

A free bouzouki tuner in your phone's browser: Greek four-course C F A D or three-course D A D, Irish G D A D or G D A E, one course at a time with a needle and the cents. Nothing uploaded.

The microphone stays open while you tune and closes when you stop, when everything is in tune, or after half a minute of quiet. Nothing is recorded or sent.

How to tune

A Greek tetrachordo (four courses) is tuned C F A D, the older trichordo (three courses) D A D. The Irish bouzouki, a different instrument with a flat back, is usually G D A D, or G D A E like a mandolin an octave down. Pick yours, then tune one string of each pair, then the other.

The low courses on a Greek bouzouki are octave pairs, a thin string an octave above the thick one; the tuner folds octaves, so tune both against the same note, then play them together and listen for the slow wobble to stop.

The needle shows how far you are from the note the tuner expects, in cents: a hundred cents is a semitone, five or closer gets the tick, and anything inside twenty most people don't hear.

Then play something

The notes you tuned go into Brumm as a short melody, inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the notes travel inside the link itself. Hum or play a line there, and it becomes an instrument.

The microphone is read in the browser and nothing is kept. How the site counts visits.
