The microphone stays open while you tune and closes when you stop, when everything is in tune, or after half a minute of quiet. Nothing is recorded or sent.
How to tune
A mountain (Appalachian) dulcimer is tuned from the bass string to the melody string. D A D is today's usual tuning and plays in the mixolydian mode; D A A is the old Ionian tuning, a major scale from the third fret; D G D and C G C are the others most players meet. A doubled melody string is one note: tune both to it.
Pluck each string near the strum hollow and let it ring. For a hammered dulcimer, with its dozens of courses, use the 432 Hz tuner's "Any note" switch at A = 440: it names whatever you strike.
The needle shows how far you are from the note the tuner expects, in cents: a hundred cents is a semitone, five or closer gets the tick, and anything inside twenty most people don't hear.
Then play something
The notes you tuned go into Brumm as a short melody, inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the notes travel inside the link itself. Hum or play a line there, and it becomes an instrument.
The microphone is read in the browser and nothing is kept. How the site counts visits.
