Kalimba tuner

A free kalimba tuner in your phone's browser: 17 keys in C (or 8 keys), one tine at a time, with a needle and the cents, and which way to tap the tine. Nothing uploaded.

–

The microphone stays open while you tune and closes when you stop, when everything is in tune, or after half a minute of quiet. Nothing is recorded or sent.

How to tune

A 17-key kalimba in C plays C4 to E6, the lowest tine in the middle and the notes alternating outward, left and right. The tuner asks for them low to high. Pluck one tine with the side of a thumb and let it ring.

A longer tine plays lower. Flat: tap the tine's end lightly with the tuning hammer towards the bridge, so it gets shorter. Sharp: tap it the other way, so it gets longer. Small taps; a few cents each.

The needle shows how far you are from the note the tuner expects, in cents: a hundred cents is a semitone, five or closer gets the tick, and anything inside twenty most people don't hear.

Then play something

The notes you tuned go into Brumm as a short melody, inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the notes travel inside the link itself. Hum or play a line there, and it becomes an instrument.

The microphone is read in the browser and nothing is kept. How the site counts visits.
