Lute tuner
A free lute tuner in your phone's browser: a six-course Renaissance lute in G (G C F A D G) or A, course by course with a needle and the cents, at A = 415 or 440 Hz. Nothing uploaded.

The microphone stays open while you tune and closes when you stop, when everything is in tune, or after half a minute of quiet. Nothing is recorded or sent.
How to tune
A six-course Renaissance lute in G is tuned G C F A D G, in fourths with a major third in the middle, like a guitar with its third string lowered; a lute in A sits a tone higher. Tune the single top string (the chanterelle) and one string of each pair, then its partner, until the slow wobble stops.
Early-music ensembles often tune to A = 415 Hz, about a semitone below modern pitch: the reference switch moves every course with it. Gut strings move with the room's warmth and humidity, so expect to retune between pieces.
The needle shows how far you are from the note the tuner expects, in cents: a hundred cents is a semitone, five or closer gets the tick, and anything inside twenty most people don't hear.
Then play something
The notes you tuned go into Brumm as a short melody, inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the notes travel inside the link itself. Hum or play a line there, and it becomes an instrument.
The microphone is read in the browser and nothing is kept. How the site counts visits.
