Pitch matching game

A note plays. Sing it back. Hit it and the next one comes; five in a row and the notes start to spread wider. Three misses end the run, and you hear it played back as a melody.

Use headphones or turn the sound up. The microphone opens when you tap and closes when the run ends. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

How the game works

Each note is played once; then the microphone listens for about two seconds while you sing it back. Sing in whatever octave is comfortable: an octave lower or higher counts as the same note. A hit keeps your streak. Five hits open the next level.

Level one stays in the comfortable middle of most voices, with small steps between the notes, and anything within 50 cents counts (100 cents is a semitone). Each level spreads the notes wider, adds sharps, allows bigger leaps and narrows the window, down to 25 cents from level six: in tune for any listener. A miss costs one of three lives; you hear the note again next to yours, so you hear the gap.

Honest about the game

This is a phone microphone in a room, not a studio. A loud room, a late start, or a word instead of a vowel can cost you a note that you actually sang well. The game reads pitch only; it doesn't judge your voice. A short run says how the game went, not how musical you are.

Tips: sing "la" or "oo" and hold it steady, start as soon as the note stops, and use headphones so the played note stays out of the microphone. Your best run is kept in this browser only.

Then make something of it

Every run leaves a melody: the notes you sang, one after the other. It goes into Brumm inside a club track with a beat and a bass. No account, no upload: the notes travel inside the link itself.

Your voice stays on your phone: the game reads it in the browser and keeps nothing but your best score, in this browser. How the site counts visits.
